Shoshong

Shoshong is a town located in the Central District of Botswana.

Shoshong is about 40 km West of Mahalapye on a travelling distance. It is described to be a very hot and rocky place. It receives heavy rains sometimes in summer and it is windy almost every day. It is encircled by a lot of hills which are used for grazing cattle.

Shoshong was originally occupied by Baphaleng, who were later joined by BaNgwato. The area of Shoshong was chosen as being easily defendable against the Matabele. Being the meeting place of trade routes from South and North, Shoshong was of substantial importance to explorers and traders in South-Central Africa.
