Mmadinare
Geography and History
Mmadinare is a village situated in the Central District of Botswana. It is about 15 kilometres from Selibe Phikwe. Motloutse River passes on the Northern part of Mmadinare, which supplies the Letsibogo Dam with water. The river is somewhat washed-out as a result of sand mining by the copper mine in Selibe Phikwe, which gets sand from the river to wash their copper ores. Many describe Mmadinare as a "picturesque traditional village with unique geographical features that reflect Mother Nature's artistic acumen".
There are lots of animals in the surrounding areas, so Mmadinare has a high potential for tourism and wildlife resources.
The tribes found in Mmadinare include Bangwato, Batalaote and Babirwa. Mmadinare developed as the walls and hills in the town were used as a form protection from enemies as the residents were able to see from a distance. Mmadinare was established around 1900 by the Batalaote when they gave up the settlement of Palapye. The village is gradually growing into a town.
